You must have seen an autorun.inf file in some of your portable devices, usually flashdisk and cd/dvd. Now what does it do? is it a virus? or worms? Well basically autorun.inf is a simple text based configuration file that can be used by a Windows operating system to determine which executable should be run first (usually handled by Autorun or Autoplay component on Windows).
An autorun.inf can perform these action automatically :

Run an application automatically when a disk is inserted.

Change the icon of your disk.

Display a commands menu when you right click your drive.

And optionally, to define which application to run for specific operating environments.

So Autorun.inf is not a virus/worms but more of a list of command to perform an automated process when you connect your device to your computer, although nowadays this file is used mostly by worms to increase their spreading via your mobile devices.

An LCD monitor is very easy to get dirty, either by dusts or fingerprints, especially when you’re working in a non Air Conditioning room or working outdoor a lot.

The problem is LCD monitor tend to be more easy to get scratch than a CRT monitor, so you would need to give a bit more attention when cleaning it.

To clean your LCD monitor you will need to prepare these things :

A clean microfiber cloth or just find yourself the cleanest and smoothest cloth possible.
Attention: DO NOT USE tissue as it would leave small fibers on your screen.

Water.

Isopropyl Alcohol(optional, if you don’t have one, plain water would work just fine).
Attention: if you prefer to use a cleaning products make sure it doesn’t contain ethyl alcohol, ethyl acid, ammonia, acetone, toluene, or methyl chloride. These chemicals can damage your LCD.

Spray Bottle(optional, but it would be better if you have one).

Now after you collect all the cleaning kit, let’s start with the procedure.

Turn off your monitor for more easy view on the dirt.

Mix the Isopropyl alcohol and water, the ratio would be 50:50 or less alcohol, and make sure they mixed well.

Now spray the mixture to the cloth, NOT directly on the LCD. If you don’t have a sprayer, just dampen the clothes a bit.

Wipe the screen very gently with the dampened cloth to clean the big dirt, then dampen the clean side of the cloth and wipe the monitor again to pick up the rest of the dirt. Don’t press too hard as this may cause pixels to burn out.
Note : to clean the dust you can methodically wipe it with vertical and horizontal movement, while to clean small stuff like fingerprints mark you can wipe it in circular motion.

Now clean the excess liquid from your monitor with dry cloth.

You can turn on the monitor again now. since the cleaning is done.

Oh and don’t forget to clean the casing too, you can clean the casing by using any multipurpose cleaner, just make sure the liquid doesn’t touch your LCD screen.

If you like to watch videos from youtube or google video, then there is a chance that you would like to keep the video in your own computer.

Actually there are couple of ways to download and keep the video, like using a third party website, or a downloader software, but what I want to share in here is how to download it without using any third party programs.

please note, this tricks only cover Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera

Prepare your browser.

Next open the site and watch the video you want until it ended.

Then after the video ends go check your temporary internet files

If you’re using internet explorer the folder by default would be in “Documents and Settings[user]Local SettingsTemporary Internet File”.

If you’re using Mozilla Firefox the folder by default would be in “Documents and Settings[user]Local SettingsApplication DataMozillaFirefoxProfilesxxxxxxx.defaultCache”

If you’re using Opera the folder by default would be in “Program FilesOperaprofilecache4″.

Now look for the file suspected as a video file. either by searching the most size or by time accessed.

Copy the file and rename the extension to .FLV

Now you can watch the video offline, and have fun.

To add more fun on it, you can also write your own upside down / flipped words. Just open the following link flipped text, write your text on the available text field and copy the result to your status message / comment, It’s not always work though, but it still fun.

This post is an explanation to my previous post Windows XP Strange Facts

Fact 1 :

You can’t create a folder named CON, why?
it’s because CON is a reserved-word used in MS DOS and is a short for CONSOLE additionally you also won’t be able to create folder named PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.

Fact 2 :

Why is it, every time you write and save bush hid the facts it changed into different character set? well it’s not a conspiracy but rather a bug. the trick is to write something in a 4-3-3-5 formation, like this app may break or aaaa aaa aaa aaaaa note that those word contain a 4-3-3-5 string formation. To solve this problem you can just select the encoding type as UNICODE instead of ANSI while saving.

Fact 3 :

Type =rand(100,99) then press enter, and you will get a number of text as a result, this is not a bug but a function created to insert random words into the document automatically.

Fact 4 :

The solitaire game. you can guess this on your own.

OK, so the title look more like a site promoting how to make money online rather than a technology oriented one. Unfortunately NO, you would not find anything about how to make more income from the internet, but as a replacement I will show you a useful information on how to shorten any URL / links that you can use for your own benefit.

First go to this address : http://tinyurl.com/

Now you may paste or type the URL that you want to shorten, optionally you can put an alias for your new URL, if you leave the alias empty, then they would generate a random alias for you.

The result URL would be like http://tinyurl.com/youralias, but if the alias are already taken then you would be given a random alias instead. but that wouldn’t be a problem since the random generated URL is still short.

Thats all, it’s simple and it’s completely free, and with this you can also use it to hide any information your original links may carry, like a referral link perhaps.

Creating chart on your websites couldn’t be more easier with the help of open flash chart.

Open Flash Chart is a compiled flash object which communicates with the world by downloading a data file. This is ‘at arms length’ and means you can use it in a commercial product, so long as you inform your users that Open Flash Chart is GPL and provide access (e.g. a link) to the source code.

The difficulty level to implement open flash chart on your website also isn’t that high, a middle skilled programmer with a minimum knowledge of flash object should be able to do it. And of course, the best part is this code is free to use and modified based on the LGPL licence.

When this post was written, open flash chart developer are already stopping their first version and moving to the second one.

You can download open flash chart project you can go to http://teethgrinder.co.uk/open-flash-chart/
